An event promotion popped up in my Facebook Newsfeed – a “Poverty Simulation” was happening at the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church on the same day as Inauguration Day. I clicked on the link and found out the event was hosted by Sunnyvale Community Services, one of Second Harvest Food Bank’s over 320 partner agencies in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. This past weekend, United Way Silicon Valley and the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley teamed up in an op-ed in the Mercury News about the state of local childhood hunger and the need to urge the House to pass the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (S. 3307).
