The Tuesday after every Thanksgiving is known in the world of non-profits as Giving Tuesday. It’s a global day of support based upon the idea that after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, people should turn toward their favorite charities and give back.

This year Second Harvest had a goal of raising $25,000 on Giving Tuesday. The best part of the goal was that the Food Bank received a wonderful donation match from The Morton Foundation. The match dictated that for every $1 donated, they would match it with another $1, up to $25,000!

This means that for every $1 donation you made of the first $25,000, Second Harvest would be able to provide 4 nutritious meals to the community!

We appealed to our followers on Facebook and Instagram with a little reminder: It feels good to give back!

Mid-day we were thrilled to announce that not only did we meet our goal of $25,000, and have it matched with $25,000 from The Morton Foundation, but that there was still time to give and help feed our neighbors:

And we simply could not be more grateful for how much you gave! Due to your generosity, we raised over $106,000 in total, and are able to provide more than 200,000 nutritious meals from one, truly stupendous day of giving! To quote Cat Cvengros, our Vice President of Development and Marketing, “You rule.”
