Firefighters do much more than battle flames and rescue cats from trees. They are also fighting hunger in our community.
For the sixth year, Mountain View firefighters from Local 1965 worked hard to make the holidays special for local seniors. By partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank’s Brown Bag program, they provided special holiday grocery bags to more than 400 seniors. Local 1965’s Create a Smile Fund, which is contributed to by 100 percent of its members, made it possible to purchase extra food like turkey rolls to supplement the Food Bank’s distribution. What made the day truly magical for our Brown Bag members was personally connecting with Mountain View’s finest, who are community leaders in every possible way. From carrying bags to loading cars, their efforts touched many.
Santa Clara County Firefighters Local 1165 also make an annual contribution in memory of Jim McCluskey, who was an avid Food Bank supporter and annual turkey donor. This year, to keep his spirit of giving alive, they raised $1,629, enough to provide more than 3,000 meals!
We thank all the heroes who make it possible to feed our neighbors in need during the holiday season and throughout the year.
