Thanks to your support, in the month of June alone, over 85,000 local children received the healthy food they needed to stay healthy and strong while school meals were out. Earlier this season we met Angela, heard her moving story, and were inspired by her desire to help children who, like her, knew all too well what the word “hunger” means. Luckily, she also knows what the Food Bank can do to help struggling families like hers.
By sharing your lunch, you helped Second Harvest to create special summer menus for children throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties including foods like fresh produce, bread, peanut butter and high-protein, low-fat snacks. Our supplemental summer distributions will continue until school starts through our partner agencies like Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCA, and also through Second Harvest’s direct service programs such as Family Harvest, where Angela’s family goes each month to get free groceries, including her favorite fruits and vegetables.
Instead of worrying about hunger, Angela is ready to go back to school and learn. On behalf of all the children we serve, Angela wants to say “thank you” to you:
The success of Share Your Lunch would not have been possible without the support of generous donors, dedicated food and fund drive coordinators, passionate advocates and our proud sponsors. Thank you for joining us to end summer hunger!
